Background

Coaching built on real experience.

My name is Josh Coldray. I am an endurance coach specialising in marathon, ultra, and trail running. I have worked in the sports and exercise industry for more than 15 years and have coached over 100 athletes — from first-time runners to experienced ultra endurance athletes completing some of the toughest events in the world.

My coaching is built on real-world experience. I do not just write training plans. I have lived the process myself and continue to train and race alongside my athletes. I understand the physical, mental, and logistical demands of endurance events because I have been there.

I believe endurance sport is one of the most powerful tools for personal growth. My role as a coach is not just to help athletes finish races. It is to help them become stronger, more resilient, and more capable — in sport and in life.

Coaching Philosophy

How I coach.

Consistency over perfection.

Missing a session is not failure. Quitting the process is.

Train the body and the mind.

Mental resilience is built through structured exposure to challenge.

Progress gradually.

Injury usually comes from doing too much too soon.

Recovery is part of training.

Rest is not optional. It is essential.

Execution matters more than effort.

Races are won and lost through pacing, fuelling, and decision making.

The mission.

To help endurance athletes build strong bodies, resilient minds, and the confidence to tackle challenges that once felt impossible.

Beyond the Plan

The breath is part of the training.

I am a certified breathwork coach and yoga instructor. I bring both into my coaching where they are relevant — not as extras, but as practical tools that make a real difference in performance and recovery.

Controlled breathing under fatigue is a skill. Knowing how to calm your nervous system at kilometre 70, or how to settle into a rhythm in the swim, is something you can train. I teach athletes how to use the breath deliberately, not just reactively.

I also run yoga sessions for athletes who want them. Not hot yoga or flow classes — targeted mobility and recovery work designed for people who train hard and need to stay injury-free over the long term.

Breathwork coaching

Practical techniques for managing effort, calming the nervous system, and staying present under pressure. Applicable to racing, training, and daily life.

Yoga for athletes

Targeted sessions focused on mobility, recovery, and body awareness. Designed around the demands of endurance training, not general fitness.

Integrated into your programme

Breathwork and movement work are woven into the coaching plan where they add value — not bolted on as an afterthought.

What Makes It Different

Coaching from lived experience.

Real-world experience. I coach from what I have done, not theory. Every recommendation is grounded in what actually works across long distances and demanding conditions.

Personalised support. Every athlete receives individual attention. The plan is built around your life, your goals, and your ability to absorb the work.

Holistic approach. Training includes physical, mental, and lifestyle factors. Strength, mobility, nutrition, mindset, and race execution are all part of the programme.

Long-term focus. I build athletes for years of performance, not one race.
